Dr. Marios Gatzianas from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) recently presented a groundbreaking paper at the IEEE International Conference on Communications 2024 held in Denver, USA on June 9-13, 2024. His paper, titled “Online Energy-efficient Resource Allocation in Integrated Terrestrial and Satellite 6G Networks” (Mesodiakaki et al.), targets ETHER’s 3D Terrestrial/Non-Terrestrial (TN/NTN) network architecture, and was presented in a session on 5G and 6G Networks on June 11th.
In the research he presented, Dr. Gatzianas described an optimization-driven approach to tackle the challenging problem of computational and network resource allocation across both terrestrial and non-terrestrial domains. The study demonstrated how the NTN domain could be optimally exploited for offloading network traffic and computational tasks, significantly minimizing the total power consumption in the network.
This innovative approach aligns with ETHER’s goal of providing a high-capacity, energy-efficient 6G TN/NTN network architecture, showcasing a pivotal advancement towards achieving efficient and sustainable 6G networks. The insights and findings from this research are expected to contribute significantly to the future development of 6G technologies, ensuring seamless integration and optimized performance across diverse network environments.
